Alfred Sung Has Definately Made His Mark In the Bridal Industry!

Alfred Sung, a Canadian fashion designer and brother of the famous Chinese actress Lydia Sum, was born on June 14th 1948. Although he aspired to become an artist, his career took a turn towards the fashion industry while studying in Paris. While in Paris, he studied couture fashion at the Chambre Syndicale de la Couture Parisienne.

Shortly after completing his studies at the Chambre Syndicale de la Couture Parisienne, Sung then moved to New York City to further his studies. Shortly thereafter, Sung planted his roots in Toronto, Canada. Beginning in the early 1970s, he began designing garments in Toronto's garment district and continued designing to open his own shop in Yorkville, a then thriving area in Toronto. Although Sung designed sportswear for almost a decade, he ultimately extended his designing capabilities to ready-to-wear collections aimed towards young women.

His clothing line appeared in a number of high end department stores including Saks Fifth Avenue, Macy's Nordstrom, Bergdorf Goodman and even Neiman Marcus. Since then Sung has also launched perfumes, men's fashion, jewelry, eyewear and home décor. Moreover, he has also become a staple designer in bridal fashion including wedding dresses, bridesmaid's dresses and other areas of bridal fashion. Like many of areas of his fashions, his bridal line combines demure elegance and romance with a modern twist.

Currently alfred sung's bridal collection consists of three different collections all of which have target three specific bridal themes: Paradise, Signature, and Pure. The paradise collection exudes exactly that; gowns that mimic the airy light feel of a beach wedding. These gowns are constructed of fabrics that are light, free flowing and airy in texture. Most gowns in the paradise collection have empire waists with light beading or intricate detail combined with fabrics that are similar to chiffon or sheer satin. Even though each gown has the same light and airy feel, each design is different enough to compliment many different styles for almost any bride.

His signature collection is almost the exact opposite of its paradise counterpart, yet it is not a drastic difference from the pure collection. The alfred sung signature collection showcases extremely romantic gowns with a modern twist. Each gown exudes romance with lots of lace, flowers, beading, ruffles or a combination of two or three design elements. The modern twist comes by way of fit and other details like pickups, the use of fabric or the marrying of two styles to form one unique dress. Unlike the paradise collection in which each gown is somewhat similar to another, each gown in the signature collection gives the vibe of romance and elegance in a way that is not similar to any other gown in the collection. Silhouettes range from simple A-line gowns, mermaid styles, and trumpet styles all the way to modified ball gowns.

Last but not least, the pure collection is more suited for brides who are interested in finding simplistic styles that are classic variations of traditional wedding gowns. Although classic wedding gowns may seem typical, pure collection gowns are anything but. The shapes range from A-line gowns, ball gowns, empire waist gowns, drop waist gowns and even modified ball gowns, but many of the designs are spinoffs of traditional bridal gowns that are seen in most salons. Details like beading, draping, lace, and full skirt drama is what differentiate these gowns from other bridal gowns. In either event, alfred sung definitely had the modern traditional bride in mind when crafting these gowns, as the gowns are understated with simplicity and sheer elegance.
