Asian Wedding Dresses Can Add A touch Of Tradition To Your Modern Wedding!asian wedding dresses Every Asian country has its own styles and fashions especially when it comes to their traditional wedding dresses. While these styles may differ greatly from country to country and even within regions of one country, one thing is sure, overall, traditional asian wedding dresses are far more colorful than the traditional wedding dress of the western world. Here is a look at just a few of the different asian wedding gowns.![]() Japan Japan is rare in that its traditional wedding dresses are white just like the traditional Western dress but there the similarity ends. The traditional Japanese wedding dress is a Kimono called a Shira-Maku. This all white kimono is beautiful in its simplicity and is worn for the wedding ceremony it's self.
China China has long been known for its beautiful, elaborately worked fabrics and fine silks and nowhere can you see the true artistry that goes into Chinese clothing than with these traditional asian wedding gowns. Since red symbolizes good luck in China it is only natural that Chinese brides would choose the color red for their traditional wedding dresses. In Northern China, the traditional wedding gown is one piece and called an Oi Pao. This is a red gown that is embroidered with elaborate gold and silver designs.
![]() Southern China brides wear a 2 piece Asian bridal dress called a Qun Gua or Cheongsam. This too is a red dress that is elaborately designed with a golden phoenix and dragon. The phoenix and dragon designs that appear on the Cheopngsam are important to the wedding ceremony as they represent the balance of power between the male and female.
Indian The third type of Asian wedding dress to be discussed here is the Saree, which is the traditional dress of Indian women. The wedding saree is actually not what most of us consider to be a dress at all but rather an extremely long piece of material that is elaborately decorated and worn with a blouse. The blouse and the Saree together form the "dress" The saree forming the bottom or skirt of the outfit. What makes the wedding saree different than other types of Western or asian wedding dresses is the fact that because the saree is wrapped and tucked in various ways, each wedding dress is totally unique to each bride. While traditional brides often chose red sarees for their weddings, more modern brides are experimenting with other colorful materials.
However, as the Western influence has reached more and more of Asia, many brides today wear wedding dresses that are a mix between their own traditional asian wedding dresses and western styles. This combination of culture and traditions have helped to develop some beautiful and unique designs. Today any bride can purchase a wedding dress with at least some Asian influence in its design. Many Asian brides are choosing to wear white wedding dresses with a more western design.
