You can wear a casual wedding dress if your planning on walking down the aisle soon. Your memorable walk need not be interfered with by a long trained, ruffle adorned gown. More modern brides are opting out on the traditional bridal gowns and grabbing casual wedding gowns off the racks instead!

Why are so many brides saying bye-bye to the traditional wedding gowns? It depends on the bride. Maybe you want to be unique or you're not the girly type, or a casual wedding gown will better suit your nuptial's theme. In the "olden" days, brides wore white faithfully when exchanging their vows and wedding ceremonies didn't leave the church. Times have changed and many brides aren't donning white on their wedding day for a multitude of reasons (not that innocent, in love with another more bold color, the list goes on).

Other reasons brides choose to go the casual route are for second weddings (which are far more common today and often less formal than the first vow exchange), vow renewal ceremonies, quick changes before the reception if you decide to wear a traditional gown for the ceremony, casual dresses can be worn again, are more comfortable, available in more color choices and styles and they typically cost less than the traditional lacy, frilly long white gown!

Unfortunately, searching bridal shops may get you bombarded by hopeful sales clerks who'll want to change your mind and get you into a more traditional (and certainly more expensive!) gown. If you want to check out your options there, go in and be firm about your preference or just don't share the news of your upcoming wedding (yes, it's difficult not to when you want to tell the whole world).

Aside from bridal shops, check formal sales stores' prom dress selections. These selections can be great and extremely affordable, particularly if you want a dress in a unique color or style. Shopping online bridal boutiques can provide wonderful results as well. The world wide web offers a wide selection of gowns of all kinds (just be sure you know what you are ordering before placing an order and that you get your correct measurements). If you have a friend who either recently wed or has an enviable wardrobe in her closet, ask to borrow a dress. Don't be afraid to check thrift shops and regular clothing retailers as well.
