Lovely Japanese Wedding Dresses!

japanese wedding dresses

Do you want to have a unique wedding dress on your special day? If so, then you should consider buying one of the japanese wedding dresses.

During a traditional wedding in Japan, the bride wears a special kimono. In Japanese, the word "kimono" literally means "clothing." In fact, fairly dressy kimonos were part of Japanese women's everyday clothing, until roughly the turn of the 1900s. However, as more women began working outside of the home, the function of the kimonos became more important than their form.

In a traditional Japanese wedding, the bride wears a white kimono, termed a "shiro-maku." The bride wears the shiro-maku during the wedding ceremony. Then during the wedding reception, she wears a more colorful type of kimono atop the shiro-maku.

Besides the dress itself, there are also some important accessories that the Japanese bride wears along with her japanese wedding gowns. There's a wedding hood that represents peace and patience. She also wears a small purse called a "hakoseko."

Another important accessory for a traditional Japanese wedding dress is the obi. What exactly is it? An obi is a type of belt that's tied, rather than being fasted via a buckle. In Japanese, the term "obi" literally means "sash." Starting around the 1500s the obi became part of everyday clothing for Japanese men and women.

The obis for women (such as those for japanese wedding dresses) have certain characteristics. They can be more than foot (30 centimeters) wide. When the obi is lengthy, the wearer can wear it in two layers, or tie it into an attractive bow. There are several styles of obi belts. Also, the obi can be made of several types of materials, such as silk or cotton. Regarding the color of the obi, modern Japanese brides often wear an obi that's pure white. However, traditional wedding obis were more decorative.

When purchasing a traditional dress for Japanese weddings, there are some important matters to consider. One of the most important ones is that traditional Japanese kimonos for weddings aren't sized. However, if you wear up to a Western size 14 dress, then you shouldn't have any problem fitting into a kimono. Also, you can make adjustments if the original kimono doesn't fit you snugly. And if a kimono you buy has a size tag, then it's not a kimono of the traditional handmade variety!

Remember that you'll need to buy two kimonos. The all-white one is for the wedding ceremony, while a more colorful one is for the wedding reception.

When searching for a kimono to buy, shop around. A high-end kimono for weddings can have a price tag of thousands of dollars. But if you shop around, you'll be likely to find a lower price.

After choosing one of the many japanese wedding dresses available, it's crucial that you wear the clothing properly. For instance, you should read books about traditional Japanese etiquette, and study various pictures. Another option is to attend a class at a local kimono-wearing school.

While it's admirable to wear a kimono during your wedding, you'll want to avoid making a faux pas by wearing it incorrectly.

If you want to avoid wearing a run-of-the-mill dress for your wedding, then consider choosing one of the lovely japanese wedding dresses available. The words "kimono" and "obi" will be all the Japanese words you'll need to know!
