Instead of a plain black abaya, a wedding abaya will be lighter in color from white to pale blue or pink. Antique lace or intricate embroidery may also be added to the top layer for more appeal. The most important thing with muslim dresses is that modesty is maintained at all times before, during and after the wedding ceremony. As such, high necks, long sleeves and ankle-length hemlines are the norm. In some areas like India and Pakistan, the sari-like wedding dress can expose parts of the arms and hands but never too much shoulder expanse. You can take them off during the reception, of course, to allow for more freedom of movement.
