Scottish Wedding Dresses For The Scottish Lass!

Scottish wedding dresses are inspired by the Celts and have a tremendous history. They are very elegant and pretty dresses yet the design is always simple and not normally complicated or ornate.

Whilst most people know that the men of Scotland wear the traditional kilt in the family tartan where possible, trying to describe a traditional Scottish wedding dress seems to stump the majority of us.

If you are planning a Scottish wedding because of your family history or just want to know more about the Scottish styling then read on and discover more.

In a modern twist on Scottish wedding gowns, some designers did offer forward a collection of tartan dresses, which for some gave a quirky twist to the traditions.

For others though, the strong tartan colors are too much for a full on dress, and it is a bit of an individual thing. However, for most brides wanting a traditional Scottish wedding dress, you are looking at a Celtic design that is reminiscent of the princess in the tower awaiting her handsome prince.

These are the dresses of fairytales, with images of dragons and wicked step mothers a plenty, and the dresses are just gorgeous. scottish wedding dress

Imagine that traditional princess with a long straight gown, flaring at the bottom to create a beautiful movement as she walks, the luxurious cream satin touching the floor.

For variation the skirt can billow out at the waist but is not held up with nets or hoops and simply allowed to fall to the floor, creating a naturally beautiful shape.

The sleeves are cut wide at the bottom forming a beautiful bell shape sleeve, perhaps the most traditional princess image. Classic Celtic knot work may be embroidered on the dress, and there is normally a low-slung waistband with roped belt detailing adding to the classic look.

For a traditional finish, a cape in matching cream can be added. These are normally full length and made of sheer material, or contrasting heavy velvet in opulent purples and reds, and the hair where possible braided low and soft creates the complete maiden in the tower experience.

Obviously modern designers have taken the basic theme and created a range of classic gowns that follow the cream theme, but they just change or vary a couple of details to create a different look.

For example, there are tight sleeved versions which are stunning gowns but are not a traditional Scottish wedding gowns experience but more a Scottish styling. However, none of it really matters, as you just want to make sure that you fall in love with the dress you choose, whether it is inspired by Scottish history or is a genuine Scottish replica dress.

As long as you feel fantastic on your big day, that's all that really matters. Whether you plan to get married in a quiet chapel or a large church or fancy traipsing the moors or Scotland for your big day, a beautiful traditional Scottish wedding dress or contemporary Scottish styling dress could be the icing on the cake.
